How to make a big statement when your office space is limited

If your office is more cosy than copious in its space, it can sometimes feel impossible to create an inspiring working environment. However, a cosy office doesn’t have to mean dull and drab. By embracing the space that you’re working with, you can make a big impact with relatively little space. Here are a few tips on how to make the most of a small office space.

Find a centrepiece. An impressive executive desk, a sumptuous sofa, or maybe just a single wall that is a shrine to creativity. Choose your style and stamp it onto your workspace.

Use colours. It’s a myth that small rooms should be painted light colours. Actually, by embracing the ambience, you can create a beautifully stylish room with some dramatic colour schemes, where employees will enjoy working. Be sure to light dark-coloured rooms adequately. Stick to a white ceiling, but otherwise, consider using some darker colours to highlight certain areas. For example, if you have a reading area with an easy chair and some books, use a dark colour to define that specific area.

Get smart with your storage. Use your storage space as part of the design. Of course, you can’t just use the shelves to stack books any old way, but with a careful eye, storage shelves such as these can provide the stunning focal point that your office needs. Or use modular furniture systems to build just what you need for your office space.

Consider using furniture at different heights. By breaking up the height of furniture within the room, you automatically make the space look more varied and less uniform and cramped. Poseur tables can be a good way to add the height you need.

Less is more. If you’re a little tight on space, opt for larger things, but fewer of them. So, instead of going for two plants in pots, choose one oversized plant that can sit on the floor and stretch up towards the ceiling, drawing the eye to the full height of the room.

Ensure your office is free from clutter. Nothing makes a room look and feel small like clutter so get rid of trailing cables, unused files and excessive pen pots. By integrating under-desk storage drawers, you can easily reduce the clutter left on desks.
