Organise your kitchen to cut down on clutter

These days, we spend more time than ever in our kitchens. Kitchens are where we prepare food and where we entertain our friends so it’s important they are kept clean and tidy. However, with so many saucepans and wooden spoons, keeping your clutter at bay is harder than it should be.

Clutter doesn’t just make the kitchen look messy, it also makes it harder to keep your worksurfaces clean. So, as we all move back inside for winter, here are some of our favourite kitchen storage solutions to help you keep your kitchen clutter at bay.

Reduce excess furniture clutter

Reassess what you have in your kitchen. Do you use your table and chairs regularly or do they just clutter up the kitchen? If you don’t regularly use your kitchen table, why not switch it out for a pull-out table. While there are some great space-saving kitchen tables for one, there are pull-out tables for larger families too, that literally slide out from under the worktop. If you have limited space for a table, you can always choose an extendable table that gives you the option of increasing your entertaining space when it’s needed and decreasing it when it’s not.

Reducing excess furniture doesn’t have to stop with the table. You can also get pull-out ironing boards and pull-out chopping boards with knife storage, and even just additional workspace to have next to the washing machine for folding the clothes and staying on top of the laundry mountain.

If you’re after a table for one, you can get some handy little tables that pull out for when you need them, but that also offer cutlery storage inside

Introduce additional kitchen shelving

Buying additional cupboard units can be costly, and often discontinued lines mean it isn’t possible to match units exactly with the kitchen you’ve got. By teaming some stylish wall shelves with the units you’ve already got, you can create a striking focal point in your kitchen. Throw in some clever under-unit lighting and you’ve got yourself a really beautiful storage solution for cups, plates, plants, books, even your glassware, pots and pans.

Magnetic shelves will give you extra versatility when it comes to choosing things to display or store. You can choose use them to make your space look good, or to store practical things like cups and mugs, cereal containers and washing up liquid.

Use magnets to clear the clutter from kitchen worktops

Magnetic kitchen storage can be a great way to reduce the clutter on your worktops, and they offer you the choice of using little pots to store teaspoons, or knife blocks. They’re easy to install retrospectively, by attaching a 3mm steel strip or a steel plate around the kitchen area you’d like to add your storage, then you can choose your magnetic storage solutions. You can get magnetic ladle hangers, cube planters, kitchen towel holders, wine glass holders, spice racks and more.

Pop up kitchen sockets

If your kitchen cables are out of control and you have extension cables trailed along the worktop, consider switching to pop up kitchen sockets. These are column plug units that pop up from the worktop when you need them and hide away beneath your worktop when you don’t. They plug straight into a normal wall plug under the kitchen cabinets and simply require a hole in the worktop to be cut before you screw the socket into place. These pop up kitchen sockets offer you a number of power points for your microwave, tv or phone charge, all in one small space and disappear from view when they’re not needed.
